Steven Zhang took three days to make the decision to participate in China’s first-ever Mr Gay Pageant to be held this evening in Beijing, with his hesitation coming from worries over what would happen when he was “outed” by the event.

He did not expect the huge media attention both from home and abroad before the event.

The 30-year-old Liaoning native, who broke up with his boyfriend months ago, is now worried that the media exposure, particularly within the nation, would lead to unwanted consequences like losing his job or hurting his family’s feelings, due to the social stigma and discrimination against homosexuals.

CBS has rejected an ad from gay dating site Mancrunch.com, telling the site that the ad “is not within the Network’s Broadcast Standards for Super Bowl Sunday,” James Hibberd reports at The Live Feed.

CBS released the following statement: “After reviewing the ad – which is entirely commercial in nature – our Standards and Practices department decided not to accept this particular spot. As always, we are open to working with the client on alternative submissions.”

The dating site for gay men had hoped it could fork over $2 million or more to CBS in return for 30 seconds of air time.

LOUISVILLE, KY—At first glance, high school senior Lucas Faber, 18, seems like any ordinary gay teen. He’s a member of his school’s swing choir, enjoys shopping at the mall, and has sex with other males his age. But lately, a growing worry has begun to plague this young gay man. A gnawing feeling that, deep down, he may be a fundamentalist, right-wing Christian.

“I don’t know what’s happening to me,” Faber admitted to reporters Monday. “It’s like I get these weird urges sometimes, and suddenly I’m tempted to go behind my friends’ backs and attend a

It’s a Gay Old Time Down the Rabbit Hole

  >10-01-28  >Posted by admin   >Category: Clubs

20080214111414The old White Rabbit was a perennial favorite for subterranean late night dancing and prancing, but it’s abrupt closer last summer left many desperately seeking a new place to boogie. As many of you are already aware, White Rabbit has been resurrected and has landed in the much more central location in Sanlitun’s Tongli Studio. While lacking the basement dungeon vibe of the old White Rabbit, owner Thomas Gaestadius has kept the bare concrete style, minus the luxury trappings that can be found in other clubs around the city. This allows the focus to be on music and dancing, which is what White Rabbit does best. In honor of the former Queer Night that

Butthole Hutong?

  >10-01-28  >Posted by Christian Jensen   >Category: News

gayographic2010012810Most gays would steer clear of the hutong areas when shopping around for a place to live; there is a conspicuous lack of material comforts, colors in your neighborhood range from dark gray to light gray, and most local residents give you the feel that the Cultural Revolution may not have totally ended. Notwithstanding, there is one hutong that just must be gay. Or should be. Juhua (chrysanthemum) means ‘butthole’ in gay Chinese slang, so you can imagine the giggles my friend and I shared as we walked past Chrysanthemum Hutong (菊儿胡同) off Nan Luogu Xiang (南锣鼓巷), joking that we should move in. More so than other hutongs nearby, Chrysanthemum Hutong is a little cleaner, a little tidier, a little …

If God Had Wanted Me To Be Accepting Of Gays, He Would Have Given Me The Warmth And Compassion To Do So

I don’t question God. The Lord is my Shepherd and I shall put none above Him. Which is why I know that if it were part of God’s plan for me to stop viciously condemning others based solely on their sexual preference, He would have seen fit—in His infinite wisdom and all—to have given me the tiniest bit of human empathy necessary to do so.

It’s a simple matter of logic, really. God made me who I am, and who I am is a cold, anti-gay zealot. Thus, I abhor gay people because God made me that way. Why is that so hard to understand?
Here, let’s start with the basic facts: I hate and fear gay people.

A Toast to China’s Gay Life in the New Millennium

  >10-01-20  >Posted by Adrian Liau   >Category: News

gayographic20100115Well, the 2000s, noughties or whatever you want to call the decade between the ‘90s and the ‘10s is almost over. As a gay person, there is a lot to be excited and optimistic about for being in China at the moment. In spite of the seemingly slow movements and false starts at times, look at what has been accomplished or started in this decade alone, especially in the past few years:

• In April 20, 2001, the Chinese Classification of Mental Disorders formally removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses.
